This website was begun by Zarina’s family with her blessing and remains a family-supported project, enriched by the generosity of friends, scholars, galleries, museums, and collaborators.

Zarina understood her American life as a chance to make an identity on her own terms. She credited the family and friends around her with helping her live and work independently, and measured that life by the willingness to try.
The archive illuminates the experiences behind the work and brings Zarina’s art, life, and voice into conversation.
